Scripture Pocket
The inspiration to make the scripture pockets came behind my own personal need for helping me get the word of God in my heart.
It was during a time in my life of major change with the Lord speaking to me to move many miles away from where I had lived most of my life. This move was made along with my four small children, and another one of my younger siblings with her two small children who traveled along with us.
This move was a move of God, He was the one who called for it, which we chose to obey the call. This call was the same call that Abraham heard and received from God many years ago to leave his country, his kindred and travel to a land that the LORD would show him.
This land the LORD was sending me to represented the same land that the LORD promised Abraham.
This was the word the Lord spoke to me that established this move for us:
Genesis 12:1
Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
Read the whole account of his move in Genesis 12:1-9
God spoke confirming this word to me with it bearing a strong witness in my spirit saying that this was my land of promise. He said that this was where my blessings were, that shall come upon me and overtake me, giving me His word in Deuteronomy 28 the blessings for obedience. Read Deuteronomy 28:1-14
This moved us far away from most of our family members, a established home daycare business, along with many friends as well as other things that we left behind. We left the only life we knew and had all grown accustomed to for our new life and land of promise.
In moving to this new place, getting established here in this place with my children along with my younger sibling and her two small children, we moved to this place that was a long way away from what was home to us, to stay with another family member.
Now in this new place on this new adventure with the Lord I have to admit that all of this was a very terrifying, yet exciting experience for me as well as I believe it was for my children and for my younger sibling with her two small children.
As we sought the Lord and ventured out into this new place and new life we were faced with many challenging situations that required that we really seek the Lord for His direction for all of us involved.
During this time I was led to establish a devotional time with the Lord early every morning. This started my day out by having first sought the Lord. During this devotion time with the Lord I prayed, read my Bible, as well as watched some television ministries daily.
As I pressed into the Lord for His direction for my family and myself in this new place I heard this, this one particular morning. It was while watching a television ministry, in listening to this person who was ministering they shared the passage of scripture concerning how Jesus was led out into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. It was brought up in this message how when Jesus was faced with the devil He used the word of God to combat him saying, "It is written" every time the devil came and presented a temptation to Jesus. In hearing this I knew that this was going to be the same way that we were going to have to face those things that were being presented to us. It was going to be the word of God that we too had to use to help, comfort, encourage, strengthen our heart, and combat the devil with all his lies and false accusations.
In hearing this message I immediately knew that I had to get armed with the word of God. Now being just me and my children I knew I was going to need a word from God's word for every situation that my children and I were faced with. This all being the same way that Jesus did.
The only thing with all of this was at this time I only had a very limited supply of God's word in my heart. I found that I was very unequipped in my knowledge of the word to be able to find the right scriptures that were needed for the many situations we were facing. I found that I only had a few scriptures that I was familiar with at this time with none of these memorized, or in my heart.
I knew I had to get the word of God in me and memorized quickly. This sent me on a search to find scriptures for my particular situation and circumstances so that I could start memorizing the word so that I could use the word of God in my times of need.
It was during my devotional times with the Lord that I began to see and capture those scripture verses that seem to stand out that really got my attention. These verses of scriptures as I began to meditate upon these began to bring great comfort, strength, encouragement, peace, and hope to my situations. It was as if there was something very mysterious, and miraculous happening to me as I would meditate upon these few passages of scriptures I was getting that were changing me and how I was feeling about those situations that presented themselves to me. I was finding peace, comfort, strength, and encouragement through the word of God, through getting it down inside of me.
I started compiling scriptures by paying attention to passage of scripture that I read during my devotional time with the Lord. Those He would cause to stand out to me were the perfect word to me in these times that brought great comfort and peace to my troubled heart, mind, and spirit.
This experience started the creation of those scripture cards that I began to make of scriptures that were bringing great comfort and peace to me. I began to type these verses out on paper then placed these around my apartment on the walls. As I did this I noticed that as I passed these and made it a point to read these verses and passages of scriptures that the word of God was now getting down inside my heart and comforting me. One thing I noticed as well as I began to do this I began to see and hear new things as I continued to read the same passages of scripture over and over again. I would see and hear things I hadn't seen or heard before just by reading the same passage of scripture over and over again. This in itself was miraculous to me and caused me to want to do this even more.
I was eventually led to create scripture cards that I hung around my apartment on the walls, above my sink in the kitchen, in most of the rooms of our apartment, placing these on door knobs, on my bed post to remind myself to read and meditate upon the word of God.
From here I proceeded to make pocket size cards, which I used, that were more easily accessible, that I could carry with me. This giving the name Scripture Pocket, cards that are made small enough so that these could be placed in your pocket.
As I placed these cards in my pants pockets, in my purse, my wallet, and other places this reminded me to read, meditate, and to speak these scripture passages out loud for the purpose of memorizing and getting the word of God inside my heart.
As I experienced the comfort, joy, peace, strength, and encouragement that doing this brought to me I was led to share this product with others with the hope that what this created in me, others could experience the same.
The main purpose for creating this product is for it to be used as a tool for helping to get the word of God memorized, and in the hearts of those who truly desire to have God's word in their hearts, in their meditation, and then coming out of their mouths in their time of need.
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. -Psalm 119:11
I truly love God, and His word, and desire that His word be on the inside of me, in my heart, in my meditation coming out of my mouth in my time of need. Our prayer is that this product would help create inside of others the same experience we ourselves have experienced in learning the word of God through this tool.
These passages of scripture below have been one of the main things that have helped to inspire the making of this product:
Deuteronomy 1:8
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
Deuteronomy 6:4-9
4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
Psalm 1:2-3
1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. -Joshua 1:8
